Do you want to know about IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Test System) is an International English language test owned by two bodies, named as British Council and Australian Council. It checks the English language proficiency of candidates who want to study or work in countries where English is the first language of communication. IELTS is of two types- ‘Academic’ and ‘General Training’. The Academic format is designed for candidates seeking admissions in universities or institutions of higher education. The General Training format test is to check one’s communications skills and measures English proficiency in a practical everyday routine. The GT test is compulsory (visa requirement) for those seeking to emigrate to English speaking countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the UK.
What is the difference between the two test formats?
All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules but Reading and Writing modules are different in both formats.
Test Format
The IELTS test comprises of four sections- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same for all candidates while the Reading and Writing tests are different for Academic and GT formats of the IELTS. The test is scored out of 9 with 9 being the highest attainable score and 0 being the lowest.
