Referring to a day like Eid ul Fitr only as a mere celebration is such an understatement. Why you may wonder? That is because this day is much more than just a celebration. It is a day filled with joy, bliss and excitement. A day that many Muslims around the world wait impatiently for all throughout the year, a day that they eagerly wait to celebrate. Read to below to know the reason why:

 

Why is Eid-Ul-Fitr Celebrated?

Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated at the end of the holy month of Ramadan and marks the conclusion of this month. The month of Ramadan holds a lot of significance as during this month Muslims fast until sunset, which means that they refrain from eating or drinking, and break their fast at sunset. Apart from fasting Muslims, celebrate this month by purifying their hearts, which means that they get closer to Allah by worshipping diligently and staying away from things that are forbidden in Islam. Therefore, Eid is like a reward for Muslims for their patience and worship all throughout the month. It is an acknowledgment of their sense of closeness to Allah. It is celebrated in 3 days.

How it is celebrated

Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated with much passion and excitement as it is celebrated in the full-fledged way possible. There are many ways to celebrate this blissful day, some of them, which are:

 

Giving charity

On this blessed day, Muslims do not hold back from making this day special for those who cannot afford to enjoy it due to their circumstances, which is why Muslims gives zakat to poor people. Zakat can be anything be it in the form of money or simply as new clothes and food.

 

Wearing new clothes

Wearing new clothes takes the cake when it comes to one of the many excitements of Eid. Just the feeling of wearing new and beautiful clothes fills people with glee as the excitement of dressing up and showing it to others makes the whole experience more worthwhile.

 

Meeting loved ones

Another beautiful fact about Eid ul fitr is that families and friends get together to celebrate this festive day. Muslims meetup with their loved ones and celebrate with chatter, smiles and delicious foods. This enhances the meaning of this day that is sharing happiness with each other.

Eid prayer

The morning of this day starts with a prayer that is called โ€œSalat al Eidโ€. This prayer is proceeded in a mosque and is followed by a sermon where the imam lectures people on the importance charity, unity and other points about deen. It can be considered mandatory as it is the most special part of the day.

Festive foods/ dishes

This joyous day can simply not be completed without tasty foods. Which is why it is celebrated with delicious festive foods all around the world. The dishes might vary from country to country but in Pakistan, usually dishes like pulao or korma are made to add more flavor to this day. To top it all off, desserts like kheer or an Eid special dessert called sheer korma and various mithai are made that are considered the highlight of the day.

Exchanging gifts/Eidi

Exchanging gifts completes the purpose of Eid. Giving gifts to friends and family makes brings them more closer to each other and makes them feel connected. On this day specifically, Eidi is given as money or gifts. It is usually given in the form of money, and is mostly given by the elders to children as a form of gratitude (may vary as it is also exchanged by age fellows with each other).
